“Average Hotel”, Whitman2002, Seattle, Feb 11, 2010

My husband and I stayed at The Golden Wheel recently and had a pleasant stay. The hotel is quite average, nothing really special about it. The rooms were fine, although they don’t give you enough towels or washcloths. You might also need to ask for additional pillows. The breakfast was nice and the gal overseeing the buffet is very sweet and friendly. The location is great if you’re interested in walking to the Prague Castle. There are some cute stores and good restaurants right around the hotel. I think it is a decent hotel for the price.

“Good selection”, Ralph301, Nanjing, Feb 8, 2010

Service was great. View was good. Very close to tourist stuff if that's what you are looking for. Wireless Internet was weak but cable worked fine. It's not a big chain kind of place. Nice and cozy and good price.

“Fantastic hotel, be careful about hot rooms in summer!”, r88my, UK, Feb 7, 2010

We stayed here in the height of summer. The hotel really is lovely. Okay the elevator is tiny but you are only using it once. The room was quite spacious but the bathroom was fairly small in comparison however importantly it was clean. The main gripe was that at night it was disgustingly hot without air conditioning. Opening windows was out of the question because you could hear everything from the street below (that’s not to stay it was a noisy street, it was just that you could hear it all). Location was excellent, close to the castle and cathedral one way and a leisurely walk into town the other. We took the tube (really cheap) in a nearby station a couple of evenings. Breakfast was perfectly adequate. Would definitely stay here again. Bring good shoes as the streets are cobbled and be prepared to walk uphill to get to the castle. Try the honeycake at the cafe downstairs!

“Great”, CoraG, Cary, IL, Dec 13, 2009

The bed was hard as a rock (at first), but the staff was outstanding. Very carrying and very nice. If getting picked up by the train station by the hotel, be prepared for the cab driver not to make an effort to get out of his car to look for you, the Cab company they use to pick you up is very lazy. The hotel admitted it to us. They had to come back for us twice. We were standing where we were told to stand. Weird. But the hotel staff made up for it. Very nice, very careing and great suggestions on restuarants. They will suggest the Three Violins (down the street). It's soo good we ate there multiple times! When I actually slept on the bed, it wasn't bad at all. It just looked horribly uncomfortable.

Travelers rating: 10Amazing boutique hotel with views of Prague Castle“, Toptoga, London, Dec 4, 2009

This is a terrific little hotel, with impressive views to nearby Prague Castle. Conveniently located to be able to walk to all of central Prague's key attractions, the quiet location and comfortable accommodation makes this an outstanding place to stay.

Unique & Friendly”, DtsPlymouth, Plymouth, Nov 21, 2009

Great little hotel. The staff are extremely helpful. The room was great but they could do with new towels and bathrobes. Breakfast was excellent. We would certainly stay there again. Location is such that two good legs are the only form of transport necessary. There is nowhere to park a car so taxi from the airport is the only way. Local restaurants are very good although one or two are quite expensive. Everything is within walking distance but take good shoes as the streets are mainly cobbled and often quite bumpy.

Unique, helpful staff, spacious rooms for Europe in a great location”, superg629, Hoboken, NJ, Aug 22, 2009

From the beginning the staff was great communicating with me and my friends with our various needs. The rooms are pretty big for Europe, although they vary. If you are on the larger size you may want to ask what the bathroom is like. As our shower could be difficult for someone on the large side.

If you have trouble walking up hill the location may not be the best for you. Otherwise, the location was a little further from hustle and bustle but close plenty of restaurants, stores, etc.
I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Great hotel”, OrlaghD, Dublin, Aug 21, 2009

Stayed here for three nights with my partner. Great boutique hotel. Central to all tourist attractions, especially the Castle which is on your doorstep. Staff very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast was good and plentiful.

“Perfect location and place to stay”, happybether. Orlando, Florida, May 16, 2009

We stayed here for our honeymoon and have only good things to say. The location is perfect, close to the castle but not in the overrun tourist district. The rooms are clean and bathrooms modern. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Can't think of a better place to stay in Prague!

“Excellent hotel”, Montreal_Canadiens, Moscow, Russia, Apr 19, 2009

As many have pointed out: excellent hotel, good breakfast and well located (not for from the castle). All major city attractions are accessible by 15-25 minutes walk; a car is not needed in town. Keep in mind that renting a car (for traveling outside Prague) could be a problem as parking is very difficult in this area (hotel does not have parking spots). I would go back to this hotel without hesitations.

zkil, USA, Apr 14, 2009

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in the beginning of this month. I can't imagine a more helpful, accomodating staff. We thought the hotel was in a perfect location. The rooms were comfortable, clean and roomy.
We would go back again. (In fact, we would like to be back there right now!)

“Excellent small hotel in great location”, Grecofan, GB, Mar 30, 2009

The Golden Wheel is a very well-run, well-maintained small hotel. All the staff were very friendly and professional. The room we had was on the top floor so had a low, sloping ceiling on one side and the bathroom had a shower, but no bath - which wasn't an issue to us. The breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold food choices, excellent coffee. There is free wi-fi, but reception wasn't great on the top floor - the reception staff provided a network cable to get round that. The location was great and there is a tram stop just down the street in the square to the right (which you can cut across to get to the Charles Bridge).

“Would stay here again!!”, cymraes12, Cardiff, Wales, Feb 23, 2009

The Golden Wheel is a lovely little hotel in an area known as Mala Strana or 'little quarter'. It's a lovely area which seemed safe day and night and is perfect as a base for exploring the city of Prague. The hotel itself was very well presented. The reception area and cafe bar were nicely decorated and well apppointed. The bedroom was fantastic (no 309). Firstly, it was huge! By far the biggest room we've had during our travels around the cities of europe. Secondly, it was spotless. Very well decorated and maintained to a very high standard. The bathroom was large and again beautifully decorated in black and white. The Golden Wheel deserves its place on the trip advisor list as one of the top 20 hotels in Prague! I would recommend this hotel to my friends and family and would certainly stay here again if I was visiting Prague again.

"Excellent”, travellerJack, Haifa, Israel, Feb 5, 2009

It really is a wonderful hotel; I wouldn't say it's five stars, but it certainly is a solid 4 star establishment. The building is beautiful, an old mansion gracefully restored. The decoration and fixtures are ultra modern, and the room I had was warm and cozy. Reasonably spacious and impeccably clean, I couldn't fault the room in any way. The shower had a powerful stream of hot water. Breakfast was great: not a huge selection, but everything was top quality (especially the pastries!) People nice and accommodating, everybody spoke English, location is great, what else can one want?

“A delightful hotel” LJLLondon, London, Dec 30, 2008

We had the pleasure of staying in this delightful hotel for a 3 night break in December. We chose the hotel based on the glowing reviews and were not disappointed.

The location is perfect. Set on a slightly steep cobbled street about 5 minutes walk from the Charles Bridge (down hill) and five minutes walk to the Castle (up hill), we felt the location is just right as you are away from the hustle and bustle of main part of the city, just the other side of the Charles Bridge and yet not too far away for it to be a problem.

The Building. In common with a lot of the buildings in the centre of Prague, the hotel is set in an old terraced property. It isn’t huge but it consists of modern décor within an old building, is welcoming and has character.

Our room was modern, clean and comfortable. It was on the top floor/fourth floor but there is a lift so that was not an issue. Our only “complaint” is that there was no bath and there was a slight stain on the bedspread. Apart from that the room was a very good size with everything we required for a comfortable stay.

Breakfast. This was standard continental fare which consisted of a choice of pastries, cereal, various different breads, yoghurt, fruit, tomatoes, sausages, bacon, cheese, ham and salami. All perfectly adequate, with the exception of the coffee which wasn’t good (however, there is a Starbucks a few minutes walk down the hill!!!!). It was a buffet arrangement so, you could have as little or as much as you wanted.

The staff. All were friendly and helpful without being obtrusive.
Would we recommend it? Yes, definitely. In fact we have done already.
All in all, a lovely place to stay in order to get a real feel for this spectacular city.

“Worth its good reviews”, SomeBrit, Cambridge, Dec 28, 2008

(this is from a stay in September 2008, just found this on my laptop which I never posted!)

With so many good reviews on trip advisor, we arrived with rather high expectations. On the whole, these expectations were met, there’s a few things that were superb, and generally it’s a good hotel with nothing detectably wrong with it.

We booked a superior room for 7 nights (finding best price at hotels.com using Trip Advisor). It looks like every room in the hotel is different and so the superior rooms are all superior for all different reasons. In this case (room 206), it was probably because of the palatial bathroom – a nice luxury, especially for a longish stay.

Is there a hill: well yes, coming from a very flat place I think there is one, but it’s really not an issue, even if not very fit. You can get to within about 5 mins walk by tram anyway (and the trams are worth figuring out). And on the plus, when you walk up to the castle you’re part the way up already. And the castle is absolutely worth doing, and took us 1.5 days. Top tip is to get the audioguide and the full ticket. The audioguide is superb, and lets you skip the queues to the cathedral. Some bits of the ticket you can leave on the first day (the galleries and the story) and come and do them the next day. The ticket is valid for two days, but with entry to each thing once only.

Location: Nerudova street is a great part of town to stay. There are some good restaurants in a close walking radius, the street is interesting during the day, and very quiet at night. I think people who struggled to sleep on that side must have been unlucky. And anyone who wants to stay the other side of the river because the hordes of tourists are there – well frankly they deserve it.
Room temperature: we were in a room facing to the internal courtyard (room 206) – no problem with temperature day or night, just had to remember not to leave curtains open when going out when it was sunny. It was quiet enough at night to leave windows open.

Breakfast and food: we were slack and came down at last minute most days and still found a massive selection and we were attended to for hot drinks and even refills long after breakfast officially ended. We ate at the restaurant (Arcadia) for a number of lunches and breaks too: the service was always excellent and the food spot on –the Bohemian salad is just right as an afternoon break.

All the staff were friendly and helpful. Housekeeping were like ninjas in white… we barely saw them except once when I ran straight back to room after just leaving. The room was always clean when we came back each day.

Anyway, thumbs up from us.

“Lovely Hotel”. MaggieJ, Suffolk, England, Dec 25, 2008
The hotel was in a good location near the castle and 10 minute walk down to Charles Bridge, so convenient to return to during the day.
Lovely room - spacious with a small study/desk area and 2 windows, roof beams and very bright and clean. There was lots of storage space and a separate tea/coffee making area. The bathroom was modern well designed, with a large sink, and bath with shower over.
The room had a view of the yard, the steps to the little roof garden, and the castle, so it faced away from the street and was very quiet at night. The castle area is generally quiet in the evening when most tourists have gone, so you may want to wander down into the main part of Prague for variety of restaurants etc.
The room was on the 3rd floor so not one of the air conditioned ones. It was very warm the final evening, so if you are staying in very warm weather it could probably do with sheets being provided instead of just a duvet.
Breakfast - there was a selection of pastries and bread, 5 different types of cheese, fruit, ham, cereal, yogurt, eggs and sausage, kept well stocked throughout. The tables were quite close together and the room small, so it could be difficult to get in and out when busy.
It was 256K (less than £1 I think) from prague airport by bus, metro then tram to the hotel. It took less than an hour and transport was well integrated. The hotel was then just up the hill.
Very comfortable few days here, and very happy with my choice.

“Great Stay at the Golden Wheel”. tottihead, Edmonton, Dec 12, 2008
Got a good price through the Expedia Air/Hotel deals. This place was a very nice hotel, only 17 rooms, so very personal with staff, who were amazing. The staff really made this place, they were always helpful, when we asked for a trustworthy place to exchange money (as we heard here on tripadvisor) he printed out an online map and gave us directions on how to get there. Breakfast is at the Arcadia Cafe next door, very good breakfast buffet (for Europe) with everything you could want in a continental breakfast. Again great service there. Rooms were very clean, well decorated and felt very modern. The building itself was very nice just on the foot of Prague castle set on veruda street. I would highly recommend this place

“Very nice hotel.”, Phaid, Midlands, Dec 10, 2008
Very nice hotel, pleasant staff and the breakfast whilst basic was very good. Good location just below the castle and in a quieter part of Prague.
I can also recommend Jo's Bar about 2 mins walk away, had several good nights in there :-) and also Prague Airport Shuttle.
I could waffle on for ages, but won't, just read the rest of the reviews for this lovely hotel.
We had a lovely long weekend break and if we decide to head back to Prague, we wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

“A jewel in the Prague crown!”, FamilySanford, London, Nov 24, 2008
Having just returned from another superb weekend in Prague, (the first was spent in 2006 at the excellent value Hotel Julis in Wencelas Square), my wife and I can honestly say that The Golden Wheel really made the weekend for us!

An early start saw us flying into Prague tired, so when we arrived at the hotel, having the receptionist stand to greet us with a smile, (thank you Hannah for the Friday and Adriana for the remainder of the weekend), was a nice touch. As we were early for check-in, we parked our bags and went off to explore the immediate area.

In keeping with previous reports, the street that the hotel sits on, Nerudova, is indeed a cobblestone hill and whilst we arrived by taxi, it could be deemed quite an incline from the square some 300m downwards. Furthermore, Nerudova leads directly up to the Palace, (if you continue up past the hotel), but the incline increases substantially towards the top, so for anyone with a medical condition, (or weak legs), please note that it can be quite a strenuous climb!

We were given a beautiful room, (#412, which is top right as you look at the external photograph of the front exterior of the hotel), on the fourth floor, although with the building dating back centuries and extensions to the building as recently as 2003, this required us to take an elevator to the first floor, walk down a few steps, up a few others and then take a second elevator to the fourth floor. None of this was an issue for us, but again, those with limited mobility please note. I suggest walking up the first floor and just taking the second one to the fourth floor, as the elevators are slow anyway.

The room was immaculately prepared, with wood flooring, a large and very comfortable bed, plenty of wardrobe/drawer space, the obligatory TV, (only BBC News and CNN were in English), two small windows overlooking the main street, providing impressive views over Prague, ample interior lighting, excellent heating facilities and a separate A/C unit for the summer time.

A free-of-charge room safe was a nice touch, although do be aware, that as with any mini-bar, items are chargeable. However, when a coffee sachet was enjoyed, eyebrows were raised, as coffee and tea in the room are normally complimentary.

The bathroom was gorgeous! Tiled in black and white, the four-piece suite was in pristine condition, whilst the superb water pressure saw my wife and I reluctant to exit the shower once we were in. With little else to be said, both the bedroom and the en-suite, were really of an excellent standard, with daily maid service leaving nothing .

We requested additional pillows and towels, which arrived almost before the phone handset had been replaced, so from a service level, again, full marks to the hotel.

Breakfast was absolutely fine and for a boutique hotel, to be expected, with fresh breads, cold meats and cheeses, cerials, juices, coffee/tea, etc. However, all food stuffs were very fresh and not yesterday's leftovers, (as can be the case elsewhere) and the staff were once again very friendly, so another set of full marks here.

What else can be said? Service levels were superb, the accommodation was without fault and the breakfasts were fresh and plentiful, so out of an overall score of a potential 'x' out of '10', The Golden Wheel scores full marks and is somewhere that my wife and I, when we return to Prague, will certainly stay.

Mention also has to be made of the 'Three Violins' restaurant about 50m down the road. Previous comments have related this venueas being an excellent place to dine, with fresh food, welcoming service and an overall ambience to be enjoyed and with us having enjoyed the lunch menu on the Friday and the 'a la carte' menu on the Saturday evening, we can only agree with everything positive that has been said. Do visit the restaurant whilst staying at the hotel.

“Great service, very friendly staff!!”, kizkouz, Zurich, Nov 11, 2008
We decided to spend the WE in Prague and after having read the reviews on Tripadvisor, we decided to stay at the Golden Wheel. Service was just excellent: the staff were all very friendly, the rooms were very nicely decorated and perfectly clean and renovated, we got all the information we needed at the reception and the receptionists always took their time to explain all we asked about. Breakfast was also very good: we had different choices and the food was very good. Again the service was very good. The waiter did more than enough to make us feel welcome and not lack of anything (I found the nusic too loud at some point and I asked him to put it slightly down, so he even changed the CD to Jazzy from Pop and put it really down, so much down that we could hardly hear anything at the end!). Besides, the hotel is really well located, on the way up to the Castle. The street contains many good restaurants. We came on Friday evening very late and we managed to be served properly after 22:30. The same on Saturday evening after a late opera show. Would definitely recommend it!!

“A Gem”, ldstein21, Alberta, Nov 10, 2008
Location was excellent - on the right side of the Vlatana (so far as we were concerned) right on historic Nerudova, the way to the Castle. Great access to the tram system and the metro. The staff was friendly and informative and once you were passed their standard recommendations (which included the Three Violins, incidentally, just down the street - a great meal but expensive as well) they readily pointed the way to a Prague that would suit any taste or pocketbook.

The rooms were spacious with a superb bathroom. The beds were hard, but I like a hard bed. The restaurant served a varied and full breakfast - important for all the walking you will be doing in Prague.
Great experience. A full recommendation.

Very cool hotel in the heart of the old city”, onefootforward, Hong Kong, China, Oct 8, 2008
Nice place, great rooms and an excellent simple breakfast. Quality staff, very helpful and sincere.
Enjoyed our time there for 2/3 days visit to Prague. The beds were a little hard, but huge bathrooms with great baths to relax. Fiance believed she saw a couple ghosts there, but Prague has the envious title of most haunted city in Europe, so guess we can't moan. Right in the centre of the old town, with a stones throw away from the castle and basilica, and a small jaunt to Charles Bridge to cross over to see the astronomical clock.

“Good hotel and great location”, midlandsmoggy, Worcester, UK, Sep 28, 2008

We pre-booked a taxi from the airport with 'Prague Airport Shuttle' and enjoyed our trip in a comfortable car with a friendly and knowledgeable American who had been resident in Prague for many years. His best recommendation was the 'Olympia' restaurant - good beer and proper Czech hearty food at good prices in a great atmosphere (and not all tourists like many of the places).

The hotel looked great on arrival and was situated on Nerudova, in the Mala Strana area immediately below the castle. Throughout our stay, we found the area charming and quiet, particularly when judged against the far side of Charles Bridge, which was packed day and night. The street is on a hill, but this shouldn't affect many, and it was approx. five minutes stroll downhill to the Charles Bridge or five minutes uphill to the castle.

Our room was very spacious and clean with all the usual facilities: free wireless internet connection, fridge, safe, tv, etc. and was very nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed. The room, and adjoining bathroom, overlooked the central 'lightwell' of the building and were bright and airy. The room was quiet throughout our stay. The bathroom was huge and stocked with the usual little bottles of toiletries.

Breakfast was a good variety of fruits, meat and cheese, cereals, breads etc. served in the cafe next to the reception area. The hot chocolate was good on all three days but varied quite considerably from thick, sweet, melted chocolate to a milky and more standard version.

Reception and breakfast staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

"Great Staff, Great Location!!”, Nicha UK, Sep 15, 2008
We stayed at the Golden Wheel earlier this month for 3 nights, booked after reading other reviews on trip. All the positives are true, this is a great hotel. It's location just below the castle is a great base for getting around, we didn't use public transport just walked everywhere as all the main sights are within easy reach. The hotel is in the lesser quarter on a lovely quiet street, which we preferred.

Breakfast was included in the price and this hit the spot every morning especially the pain au chocolat!! The staff on reception were great, especially the guy working the day shift (I'm really sorry I can't recall his name), a font of useful information! There is also a lovely restaurant just down the road at no.12 called the Three Violins, we'd highly recommend you give this a go we ate there twice. We also tried Cowboys, although a lovely restaurant it's not great value for money and very limited menu for non beef eaters.

The slight downside to our stay was our room, although it was lovely and spacious it had a window that faced internally, room 103 is also on the first floor so the room doesn't have any airflow and it gets very very hot and stuffy. We managed to get a fan on the second day which solved the problem, so if you're in 103 ask for a fan when checking in to avoid a sleepless first night if it's warm!

We'd highly recommend a stay at the Golden Wheel!

"FANTASTIC, ALL THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE SPOT ON!”, nazzak, sussex, Aug 22, 2008
We booked this hotel from last minute.com as part of a package after reading the reviews of the hotel posted on this website. All I can say is that they are all 100% spot on. The hotel's location is perfect. Set on a beautfiul, quiet cobbled street with fantastic views of Prague Castle and only 5 minutes from Charles Bridge its location is relaxing and authentic as well as being a stones throw away from all the beautiful sites Prague has to offer. The staff were friendly and helfpful far beyond their duty, the room was big, clean and comfortable with interent access, a kettle, lovely bathroom and a television. Breakfast came included and we ended up looking forward to the selection of croissants, rolls, cereal, fruit as well as eggs bacon and sausage. Absolutely no complaints; two issues readers may be concerned about, them having been raised by other reviewers - namely the 'hill' on which the hotel is located and the 'noise' - should not be an area of great concern.
Firstly the gentle incline on which the hotel stands cannot really be defined as a hill. Yes it is on a gradual incline but it is not steep and is easy to negotiate even with heavy suitcases. It is also worth being where it is for its location. We travelled all around Prague and failed to find a nicer spot. Able to go for evening walks over Charles Bridge, soak up the atmosphere the other side and look forward to returning to our quiet and cosy street.
Noise? What noise? All i can say is that while we stayed there we did not hear so much as a whisper duirng the evening. There are two sets of windows and the street is very quiet anyway to the extent we were quite able to sleep some nights with the windows wide open. Obviously during the day with the windows open some noise might be heard but that is to be expected in a capital city and a short walk to old town square will make you realise how lucky you really are.
Final points: we recommend using public transport to get to the hotel. It costs about 80p in total!! and takes about 35/40 minutes. The hotel can email you the details and though it may sound complicated (it did to us) using a tram, metro and bus, it really couldn't be easier and is a perfect way to enter the city. The three violins restaurant, on the same street as the hotel is highly recommended as is the Old Town Square and the Estate Theatre - especially if Don Giovanni is showing. Petrin Hill is a must as is a boat trip on the river. 100% recommended

We had a fantastic 3-day stay at The Golden Wheel. The hotel was lovely, the room spacious, and the hotel employees were highly professional, friendly, and very accomodating. “Hit and Miss”, Linnybee, North Vancouver, Canada, Jul 3, 2008
I am a little neutral on this hotel. We just returned from a three week stay in Europe and this was one of the hotels we felt just okay about, didn't really like it but, we didn't really hate it either. First, let me say that the hotel itself is a real gem. The staff is friendly and helpful and all speak fluent English. The hotel rooms are clean, fresh and comfortable and the complementary breakfast was probably one of the best on our trip. There were a few things that made me not like the hotel however. I didn't really like the location. Most of our time was spent out of the hotel in the New town or Old town, if we ever had to return to the hotel it was quite a walk from all the attractions and the restaurants and, it is located close to the top of a very steep hill which can get a little annoying climbing it every time you want to return to the hotel. Also, we were facing Nerudova street which can be quite loud, the noise seems to amplify off the facing buildings - lots of loud big trucks pass by early in the morning (very early!) and because there was no air conditioning in the room we had to have the windows open (we tried to close them one night and woke up in the middle of the night to an extremely hot and stuffy room, I could barely breathe!). There was a very loud group of guys in the hotel across the street from us and you could hear every word they were saying and they had the TV cranked! I have never been bothered by noise before and I have stayed on the front of many a hotel that faces a loud street. I loved Prague and would love to return again but, next time I would definately stay at a hotel in the Old or New town. Mala Strana just sort of felt like a ghost town in the evenings with no one in the restaurants that lined the main street, Nerudova. However, for some strange reason it was still considerably loud at different times throughout the night when you are trying to sleep!

“Great choice” B&WTGlasgow, Glasgow, Jun 24, 2008
From the initial contacts with the hotel before our stay, to arrange for collection from the airport, to the time we left everything was great. Staff were friendly and professional, rooms (overlooking Nerudova) were well furnished, quiet and comfortable, breakfasts were excellent (freshly squeezed juice and a choice of well-presented cold or hot food). The location is ideal, just beneath the castle complex and with easy access to the old town across Charles Bridge. We chose the hotel because of other reviews and it lived up to our expectations.

The room was stunning as we plumped for the panoramic suite with views in every direction. The suite is on two floors and is huge, 2 TVs, 4 much needed air conditioning units, 1 main bathroom and 1 en-suite (room 515 by the way).
A previous review mentioned an ipod hookup with speaker in every room, we certainly didn't have it and in the best room at the hotel I'd of thought it would be in there if anywhere. And the wifi in the room didn't work, tried for ages to get it to connect to my wifi mobile phone but no joy - it works fine at home though. The internet room is a good idea although one day I went on to check e-mails and it wouldn't work at all.
Breakfast had a good selection although the fried food was a little disappointing and if you weren't down by 9am you usually got the left overs as it went pretty fast, service at breakfast got worse as the week went on due to different members of staff not reaching the same standards as the first guy set. The room is quite small and you get the feeling that you are on top of each other which we weren't keen on, but others may find this a good way to chat to other parties.
Cowboys restaurant was superb if not a tad pricey (£27 for their cheapest Chardonnay?????!!!!). Don't believe all the stories about cheap food and beer in Prague, we never came across any and a typical main course would set you back about £10. Santini's down the road was OK as well but the portions weren't huge so if that is important you may want to look elsewhere.
Location wise the hotel was spot on, nearby to everything and the hill to get to the hotel isn't any real challenge if you are fit and well. Trainers or comfy shoes are a must, we walked around 25 miles in four days and our feet knew it by the end. A must is the palace and do make the effort to climb the 287 steps up the South Tower in the Cathedral as the views are out of this world. You must also visit the Church of Our Lady at Old Town Square - it truly is a magnificent building inside and out.
Overall we loved the hotel despite from the little niggles and would love to return one day.

“Everything You've Read is True” SeePee, Hertfordshire, May 30, 2008
This hotel is absolutely fantastic. Everything you've read is true. The observation point is great for taking photos of the castle and the little roof top garden is lovely with all the roses just about to bloom. Room was first class (the MP3 player jack plug was a useful amenity). Service was excellent. Location was brilliant in a quiet part of town but only 10 minute walk from Charles Bridge and 10 minute walk from Castle. Breakfast was vast! Hotel is half way up Nerudova but I guess if you can't manage hills and cobbles you wouldn't be going to Prague! Have tried hard to think of any negatives, but there are none!

Quiet, romantic and great service! wetravel1195, Ottawa, May 29, 2008
We are still here and appreciating the hotel for its location, setting and service! Each day we return from touring this wonderful city, exhausted, and appreciate our room at the back facing the castle from the balcony. The mattresses are a bit too firm but that is the only complaint we can come up with! Front desk staff are quick to accomodate with reservations and recommendations. The food at Acadia is wonderful and consistent for breakfast and lunch - a nice change from many of the overpriced, mediocre restaurants around. Just a wonderful place -- we're so glad we chose it! Traveler rating: 10 “What a gem“ mpm989, Slough, May 20, 2008 Stayed here for a long weekend break in May. Although I knew the hotel was on a hill that did not bother me at all. The views from the back of the hotel to the castle were wonderful. The staff were so accomodating. The breakfast choice was fantastic. I have read many reviews on Trip Advisor and this hotel exceeds everything other people had written. If you are going to Prague and you want a friendly, efficient and within easy reach of all amenities, you MUST stay here.

“Unreal- Great location! Beuatiful room under Castle!!”, BHG333, May 19, 2008
We just returned from an unreal stay to Prague. We picked the Golden Wheel as we read the reviews on Trip Advisor. Thank God for frip advisor as they were right one. The Hotel was beautiful. Very large rooms and great bathrooms. Our view was unreal as we were right under the Castle. The other reviews are correct as there is a little hill to walk to get to the hotel from St. Charles bridge. I thought this was perfect as this was not right in the middle of all the crazy tourists. Close enough to easily walk. It was 5 minutes to the St. Charles bridge and 10 to the square. People were very friendly and the breakfast was included it was great. I travel for business and rarely see service look this. The rating is well deserved and we would defiantley stay there again. This is very close to Cowboys resturant is a great high end steak house that sits on the roof of all the buildings! This place is 200 feet from the Golden Wheel! The architecture and art in the hotel are great and various stairwells and glass elevators are truly unique. They even have a speaker in each room with an Ipod hook up so we plugged right in and enjoyed!!! They also had wireless internet in the rooms which was a suprise. Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the Golden Wheel does not disappoint. Worth every penny. Check around as rates varied on different sites. Ultimately found good rate on expedia

“Good hike up the hill”, kwoodRochester, Rochester, NY, Apr 1, 2008
It is a good hike up Nerudova Street to The Golden Wheel, but well worth the climb. Easter Week in Prague is very busy. Nerudova Street is the main path to Prague Castle, and busy during the day, but a quiet retreat in the evening. You must "storm" the castle at night when it is eerily quiet and beautiful. The Golden Wheel is in a perfect location. The rooms were clean and rather large, very modern bathroom and an excellent breakfast. The staff were very helpful when we missed our connection and had to change our airport pick up time. The only disappointing thing about the Hotel is the glass terrace. It is only large enough for one person to stand on, not a place to sit and relax. I will stay at the Golden wheel again.
We had a very nice dinner at Vpodhradi of duck for two for 320kc (about $18US) without wine/beer. We ate at UMaltezskychrytiru (Knights of Malta) whihc was overpriced and not as good as our duck dinner. There are greaat pubs and wine bars (Noble's) around Golden Wheel so even though it is a quiet area at night, there is plenty to do.

“Great location”, SJTN, Lebanon, Tennessee, Mar 19, 2008
This is a great hotel if you are looking for a friendly, comfortable place to stay in Prague. The receptionist, Tereza, was wonderful and made our stay very pleasant and informative. We stayed in a room on the 3rd floor overlooking the street. The street side had a great view and the windows opened out so you could view the beautiful streetscape. The room was quiet at night but we had to close the windows. The breakfast was great. The room was very clean and it had a great bathroom with a large tub, and a nice heated towel rack (which was great for drying out clothes that we washed by hand), There's a great Italian restuarant down the street (by the pharmacy). It is about a 10-minute walk to Charles bridge and about a 5 minute walk to a convenient tram stop by St. Nicholas church. Learn to ride the trams and you can go everywhere. Prague is lovely and you won't go wrong with this location. It is on a street that is fairly steep so if you have knee or hip problems you may want to consider another property. My husband and I are middle age and I have some joint problems but the climb wasn't that hard and the street view was worth the extra effort when returning to the hotel. Wear very comfortable shoes since the streets are uneven and are cobblestone.

“Excellent Hotel with Incredibly Helpful Staff”, bve0101, Philadelphia, Feb 28, 2008
This hotel cost a bit more than I typically pay but I am so glad I did. The location was great - just below the castle. The room itself was very spacious for European standards and it was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet was included in the cost of the hotel and i was more than satisfied with the quality and selection of items. But the best thing about this hotel was the staff. They were so helpful with every aspect of our trip. In fact, my husband and I met a friend in Prague who was staying elsewhere. The three of us scheduled a mini-tour to Kutna Hora and at the pick up time my husband and i were ready and our friend was nowhere to be found so we had to leave. Our friend showed up 10 minutes after we left and the gentleman at the desk actually hailed our friend a taxi and gave the driver instructions where to take our friend so that he wouldn't miss the tour. This was a great place and i would definitely stay there again.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. The rooms are large, clean, with all the amenties you will need. Also, with there only being 17 rooms it is a very quiet hotel.
Location is perfect, it is 5 mins from St Nicolas Church and about 10 mins walk to the castle, monestary and Charles Bridge.
The staff are very friendly, they all speak English and were very helpful. Couldn't ask for more!
Recommend for transfers. Drivers are punctual, polite and speak English. If there are 4 of you travelling, if you state that you want a bigger car for luggage in the notes section you get a free upgrade to a minivan. Prices are cheaper than the hotel transfer and all the other transfer companies i looked at.

“Great Boutique Hotel”, annemark , Oxford, Jan 2, 2008
Great hotel that lives up to all the positive reviews. Front counter staff are great and try really hard to please. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Therese was great with our concert arrangements and has a lovely manner. We stayed in room 101 which had a street view not a castle view but still a great room with a wonderful hand painted historic ceiling. Only complaint was the beds were two singles put together with individual doonas which may not suit some couples. It was always wonderful returning to the hotel after a day out as it was so welcoming and uplifting. We tried three violins for dinner which was good and also Cowboys which had a good menu. Both restaurants are a minute away from the hotel. Hotel is well situated and encourages a good walk to the old town square or the Jewish quater. Support all the positive things said about this hotel. It will make your stay in Prague memorable.

“It's all true”, Tom10 , Leamington Spa, UK, Dec 28, 2007
It’s all true. We stayed at the Golden Wheel for seven nights over Christmas and found it as appealing as all the reports would indicate.
The hotel is very well located (if you don’t mind climbing hills). You walk up to the Castle or the Loreto or the Strahov Monastery or the Petrin orchards and down to the Charles Bridge and Kampa Island and the Old Town. The Nerudova is very busy during the day, but very peaceful at night. It is an easy walk to a lot of good restaurants - the Three Fiddles (U tri houslicek), just down the street at number 12, was excellent, even though I have never seen it in a guidebook. (Because it was over Christmas, we had booked several guidebook-type restaurants, including David, The Blue Duck (U Modre Kachnicky), The Malta Knights (U Malteszschy Chiytiru) and Hergetova Cihelna, but didn’t really find the food that much better than at the Three Fiddles.) We covered a lot of ground across the river without ever using a taxi or public transport, but the tram station is very nearby if you want to save your legs. The breakfast at the hotel is first class, with a different combination of egg and sausage/ham/bacon dishes every day and a coffee bar machine that can produce any hot breakfast drink you might fancy. The rooms are spacious and spotless and the views out the back (especially from Room 410, whose terrace the cold weather prevented us from using much) stunning.

But, as everyone says, the staff are the crowning glory. We added a member to our party a week before arriving without any problems. (He shared a room with one of the existing party at no extra charge.) We wanted to visit the ossuary at Kolnice (near Kutna Hora station) but were concerned about the travel arrangements. Robert went on the Web and printed up (in colour) rail schedules, local maps and descriptions and everything went like clockwork. Our shower head had a crack in it, spraying water where you might not want it. We mentioned it to Martin, not expecting much to be done over the Christmas break, but a new one appeared the next morning. We would leave the Do Not Disturb sign on the door until we left after absorbing breakfast and no matter how briefly we were out, the room was always made up by the time of our return. On the day of our departure, we were allowed to retain our room into the afternoon until the car to the airport (provided by the hotel at no extra charge) arrived.

One minor irritation, which did not detract from the pleasure of the stay but which niggled a bit, was connected with currency. Our (very reasonable) room rate was quoted to us in Euros, but the bill was in Czech Crowns. (Like England, the Czech Republic has not yet signed up for the single currency, although it plans to do so eventually.) They were unable to accept a credit card payment in Euros (although they would have been happy to accept cash). The problem was that the exchange rate they were using was a bit over 8% worse than the current official rate from the Czech National Bank (which was easy to discover because of the excellent and free wi-fi setup in all the rooms). When I pointed this out, they immediately re-calculated the bill. (I must admit to a bit of an obsession with exchange rates and the connected injustices. If you live in the UK, I strongly recommend opening an account with Nationwide so that you can use their credit and debit cards without being penalised by special commissions and charges for transactions in other currencies. I believe that their exchange rates are competitive; but even if they weren’t, it is worth it just to avoid seeing the rip-off charges on your statements.)

“Smart hotel in great location”, Jec77, East Sussex, Nov 27, 2007
Stayed for a long weekend in late November.
Smart hotel in an excellent location close to the Castle and less than 10 minutes to the Charles Bridge. Hotel was modern and clean, with a good breakfast and very helpful staff.  Hotel was in a relatively quiet location, but close to some good restarants and a short walk from bars. Was able to walk to most of the sites. I would definitely stay there again, and would recommend.

Just returned from a very pleasent city trip to Prague. I would very much recommend this hotel. It is located in a quiet street, which is highly appreciated at night. The rooms were great and clean.
Breakfast was great with a great selection of cold and hot food. Staff was also great. Free internet was higly appreciated. The only downside was that there were some steps to be taken with your luggage to arrive in your room, but that's only when arriving and leaving of course.
Highly recommended.

"Fantastic Hotel" rsb3, New York City, New York Oct 2, 2007
We stayed at this hotel for five nights at the end of August/beginning of September and thought it was absolutely fabulous. It had almost everything I could have hoped for in a hotel. The room was very pretty and more importantly very clean as was the bathroom. The location was wonderful. If you are tolerably in shape, I found it to be the perfect location from which to explore the city. We walked basically everywhere we went and got to see pretty much everything. It is up a hill which can be a pain but it is good exercise and offers a quieter location than some other areas. It was nice to get away from the bulk of the crowd to what I found to be a nicer area but still nearby what you will want to see and do.
The absolute best part of the hotel though, was the front desk staff. We met many different people and each and every one of them was so nice and very helpful. We never had any trouble communicating with them even though we spoke no Czech and they were happy to help book reservations or cabs, find out train times for us, or give us directions to wherever we wanted to go and they were just so nice and friendly about everything.
The hotel was top notch and the location was wonderful. I would definitely recommend it. It has much more character than many of the larger chain hotels I have stayed at. The only negative that I found was that the beds were not as comfortable as I could have hoped for but they weren't terrible either.

Stayed in the Golden Wheel for five nights. Excellent location to get to both sides of the river. Only a five minute walk to the Charles Bridge. Rooms are beautifully appointed. Staff was very helpful and we asked them for a lot of information about various attractions and getting a driver to take us to a location outside of Prague. Lots of restaurants withing a few steps of the hotel. The hotel is literally in the shadow of Prague castle.

Have just returned from spending 4 enjoyable days spent at this hotel. Could not really fault a thing. Reception very friendly and re-iterating someone before they always knew your room number when going for your key. Room was lovely which overlooked part of Prague Castle (307). Breakfast was very good and hot food seemed to change each day. Little shops nearby and also good restaurants. Charles Bridge about 10mins walk. If you have time, we booked a classical concert at St Climents Cathedral (over into the old town) which was lovely, played about 60 mins. I will definately be booking this hotel if we ever manage to return to Prague. Enjoy!

absolutely spot on" mickinbradford, bradford Aug 13, 2007
After reading lots of good reviews, i eventually decided on The Golden Wheel and was so glad i did. I booked a superior room which was spacious, spotlessly clean and decorated to a high standard with a lovely bathroom. It was really quiet too as it at the back of the hotel with views of the Palace. The staff were lovely and made us very welcome and the breakfast was a cut above the usual continental stuff as everything was very fresh and tasty, we ordered omelettes one day and they really good, the waitresses were really friendly too and couldn't do enough for us. As for the location, we thought it was pretty much perfect, away from the major hustle and bustle but near enough to everything on a lovely street with some nice little bars and restaurants and a few shops. All in all, we would heartily recommend The Golden Wheel and I for one would like to return one day.

This boutique hotel on a historic street in Prague is absolutely beautiful and I highly recommend staying there. While it is busy during the afternoon, the street is quite lovely and quiet in the evening. The hotel is in close proximity to the Castle and only a 5 minute walk to the Charles Bridge. The staff was so helpful in choosing restaurants and booking concerts to attend. If you are looking to go for a nice meal of fine dining ... Kampa Park, while on the expensive side, was delicious and gave amazing views of the bridge at night. I should also mention that the breakfasts at the hotel were delicious! The Golden Wheel was perfect!

"Excellent small hotel in the historic heart of Prague" PeterBrussels, Brussels, Belgium Jul 26, 2007
Excellent small hotel for people who are looking for authenticity in a historic location. Very clean rooms with everything what should be in a great hotel room: plenty of towels and bathrobes, safe, minibar, coffee-making facilities, big closet, international TV, hardwood floor, large desk, ... Every room is different and has its own character. Service is very personal: every person at the reception desk seems to know your room number (and automatically hands over the right key when you need it) and you don't even have to hang out the sign "Do Not Disturb" because the cleaning crew knows who's still sleeping and who's out. Breakfast is good and also possible in your hotel room. Good pick-up service at the airport at a reasonable price. Great Illy-coffee at the bar.
Very good hotel at an excellent price if don't really need a pool or A/C (like me) to enjoy your stay in Prague.

My husband and I with our 2 teenage girls stayed for two nights in mid June (not long enough) it was extremely hot when we go there. The gentleman on reception was so helpful, helped us with all of our luggage to the top floor where we found our beautiful "attic room". There was plenty of room for all of us, we had a large bathroom, then upstairs was another room with a toilet and basin which was great. The room was very quite and we were facing the street, it was clean and homely and also in an excellent position to get to all the sites within easy walking distance. The reception staff were exceptional, on the morning of our early departure our transport didnt turn up they went out of their way to get us to the airport on time. Cant say enough about this hotel, would definately stay again and recommend to others. Also great restaurants near.

We booked our 4 nights at the Golden Wheel based solely on the positive reviews on this site and we were not at all disappointed. It is a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. The breakfasts were delicious and the staff were all sooo helpful! We loved Prague, but the Golden Wheel really made our holiday. Nerudova St can be a bit noisy in the evenings (but you can probably say that about most city hotels in decent locations) so the double windows were a bonus. But there's not much traffic on the beautiful cobbled street - its mainly people walking passed the hotel and chatting loudly, perhaps having sampled a little too much Pilsner.....(which incidently was also lovely!).

, Lancaster, England Jun 19, 2007
My husband and I have just returned from a 4 day stay at the Golden Wheel where we celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary. After researching hotels in Prague on Trip Advisor the reviews on this hotel were very good so we decided that this was the hotel for us - it seemed to 'tick all the right boxes'. We were not disappointed!! From our arrival to leaving the staff (especially on reception) were extremely helpful & polite - they could not do enough for us.We frequently asked their advice & opinion on restaurants and places to visit - each time they spent time giving us directions & showing us maps. They booked us restaurants, even making last minute calls when our taxi was late picking us up to go to the airport. The location of the hotel is perfect just minutes away from the Castle & Charles Bridge, though just a word of warning be prepared for the 'hike' up and down the street (Nerudova). It is also in a nice quiet area away from all the 'hustle & bustle' of Prague. The hotel itself is gorgeous - very tasteful and immaculately clean! Nice cafe bar attached to the hotel - very trendy. I can recommend the coffee and especially the delicious honey cake. Our room (410) which seems to be rated the best in the hotel was lovely - we were at the back of the hotel with a private terrace overlooking the Castle, spotlessly clean, roomy, modern bathroom. It was peacefully quiet except on our first night when leaving the doors & windows open onto the terrace a musician in a nearby residence started practising - a wonderful, surreal experience. On the day of our actual anniversary the hotel left us a very nice bottle of wine & chocolates in our room! Breakfast - nice fresh food served with lots of fresh coffee etc.

"First-rate hotel" travelgirl70, London May 15, 2007
I had a wonderful experience at The Golden Wheel. I have stayed at five star hotels in the past but nothing compared to the quality of service and style of this hotel. I decided to go to Prague for a weekend trip on my own after my friend fell ill and couldn't join me. She really missed out.
The service was warm and friendly and everyone, from the receptionists to the breakfast waiters, looked like they genuinely enjoyed their jobs and were happy to help you. The room was more spacious than I ever expected. As an American you don't expect the size and scale of US hotels but this one certainly compared favorably to any US hotel. The only small criticism was that the throw rug near the bed was noticeably stained with dirt or perhaps a coffee spill, and the blankets could have been thicker and warmer and the heater didn't work, but apart from that the room was comfortable, chic and modern.
I highly recommend attending a concert at the Litchenstein Palace a few minutes walk from the hotel. Breathtaking. I also recommend The Three Violins restaurant also near the hotel. Excellent. high quality food in a cozy and beautiful environment. I ran into the hotel receptionist Theresa as she was on her way home and asked her for a dinner recommendation near the hotel. She went out of her way to walk into the restaurant to ask if there was a table available. The waiters made a table for me and I ended up having a lovely meal.
Thanks to other Trip Advisor members for recommending this hotel. I would not have stayed were it not for the informative reviews. I took one member's advise about taking the bus then the metro into the central part of the city and it was an excellent suggestion. I am always the first to jump into a cab to make life easier but the bus was so simple and cheap.

Room & bathroom large, clean and comfortable. English language tv channel useful for news. Generous breakfasts & excellent omelettes made-to-order. Free internet access v useful. Would recommend hotel to anyone unless mobility is a problem (hill could be too steep).
Area is fantastic - busy but rooms quiet. Local restaurants cheaper than other main tourist areas on west bank.
Booked taxi for airport transfer after finding link on travel advisor - very last minute but no problem - driver was waiting for us. Helpful, informative friendly driver. Prompt return service. Overall, an excellent service that helped us make the most of our weekend.

We have just returned (6 of us) from a 3 night midweek stay at the Golden Wheel Hotel. I can only describle the hotel as excellent. The position is very good (although it is more than a few steps to Charles Bridge which is stated in the description - more a 10 - 15 minute walk) but very close to the castle and very well situated. The rooms are well decorated, spacious and in keeping with the rest of the building, bathrooms are big and modern. The breakfasts were very nice with all the food being fresh and a good variety for continental breakfast. Apart from the building and the area one of the best features of this hotel is the staff, they all spoke good English and were extremely helpful in booking restaurants, tickets, giving directions, etc particularly Martin on reception. All in all this was an excellent hotel which we would definitely return to and would recommend to other travellers to Prague.

This hotel was brilliant and has several plus points. The room was spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated, and the bathroom was also roomy, new and had a great shower. The location was great - just a few minutes from Prague Castle, about a 10-15min walk to the Old Town, and a few minutes walk from restaurants in the local area in Mala Strana. The hotel had a PC for with free internet access for guests, which was pretty handy. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, particularly helping us to book restaurants and help us find our way around. And such good value as well! I have no hestitation in recommending this hotel and will definitely stay there again if I go - good rooms, good location, great staff!! And if you get a chance, do book a table at the Restaurant Nebozizek on Petrin Hill - brilliant food and amazing views over Prague.

"Fantastic stay - book in advance to get great rate." Essey77, Leeds, UK Mar 20, 2007
There are hundreds of hotels in Prague and I finally settled on the Golden Wheel, after reading excellent reviews about this hotel on TripAdvisor. I was not disappointed. We have just returned from four fantastic nights in Prague staying at the Golden Wheel (U Zlateho Kola). I booked 5 or 6 weeks in advance through [----] and made huge savings with an advance booking rate - well worth it, as it brought the price down to about E95 (£65 / $110) per night. The hotel was renovated in 2003, but has retained lots of character - the saddle-style ceilings and even a well (you can throw a penny in and make a wish!). Although our room over-looked the street (some rooms have a view of the castle), it was huge, clean, well-furnished, warm, comfy, large bed (King size/super king size??), large TV, etc. The windows were well double-glazed, so we didn't really get any noise from outside. The bathroom was big, modern and spotlessly clean. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially the guy on reception - they are happy to phone restaurants, concert venues etc. and make reservations on your behalf. The location was perfect, less than 5 minutes walk from the Castle and about 5 minutes to Charles Bridge. We ate in Old Town (Stare Mesto) a couple of times, and it's a very pleasant walk back to the hotel. The hotel is on quite a main route (Nerudova) - it leads directly to the Castle area, which is an advantage because it's still quite lively with people at night, there are several restaurants and bars, and you feel safe walking on that street. Some hotels which looked nice by day were actually on really quiet streets which would have made me feel a little uneasy walking back at night. All in all, I heartily recommend the Golden Wheel! This TripAdvisor Member: Liked: Location, good breakfast, advance booking price Disliked: nothing!

As a frequent user of TripAdvisor, we strongly advise you consider this charming hotel for your trip to Prague. We're just two days back from Prague after spending a glorious week in the Czech capital and were completely satisfied with the cleanliness (we're pretty fastidious), the facilities (great mix of charming old and efficient new and the breakfast buffet was fresh, complete, tasty and had strong coffee), the rooms (slept like a baby), and the location (you could drop a pebble from the castle onto the hotel's rooftop patio and simple 5 minute walk to Charles Bridge). The staff were very friendly, approachable and helpful but perhaps not as well informed as they might be because March is off season. Overall, you will not be unhappy.

"Very high recommendation" Sarah-J2007, Southampton Mar 10, 2007
Have just returned from a fantastic few days in Prague, staying at the Golden Wheel. I scoured this site for hours trying to decide where to stay but certainly made the right choice! This is a great hotel, in a brilliant location. I much preferred staying on the castle side of the river - more peaceful at night and great Czech restaurants a few steps away. We stayed in room 410 which was brilliant - huge bed, sparklingly clean bathroom, and a terrace which amazing views of the castle. Try and get this room if you can - I don't think some of the standard rooms have such good views. It was also very quiet as its on the 4th floor so only one floor above you. The hotel has been very tastefully restored, managing to retain its character, while putting in modern touches. The adjoining cafe is great too - a lovely place to start the day with the hotel breakfast .... I had a wonderful omelette cooked to order, together with cereal, croissants and yoghurt wasn't hungry again until evening. Also stopped off in the cafe mid afternoon and had hot choc and honey cake. You must try this.. to die for! All up, a great place to stay, very individual, staff helpful and friendly and brill location. Enjoy!

"Excellent Hotel and Location" Hobart87, Birmingham Feb 16, 2007
We have just returned from a three night stay at the Golden Wheel located in Nerudova street within the Mala Strana district, adjacent to the castle, The hotel has been restored to a high level of workmanship that blends the history of the building (orginally a 14th century build) with modern design and fitments. The room we were allocated was very spacious and well appointed with a view overlooking the street. We were able to control the heating within the room that made for a comfortable stay. The staff were extremely helpful, even to the level that when returning to the hotel they always remembered your room number and handed over the key without any prompting. Also, as the hotel is close to many embassies, the area seems to be much more secure, not that there are any problems evident in the city. Locally, within two or three minutes walk, there are a number of excellent restaurants that serve good quality food at very good prices, with all of them offering local dishes rather than the bland variety that some others offer. All bars and restaurants offer great local beers at between 70p - £1.10. The hotel is located such that you can visit all the attractions within the city centre without having to use any transport and is next to the castle, which provides great views over the city. In summary if you enjoy cities that have a sense of history, culture, stunning architecture and combined with great places to eat and drink (at very good prices), then Prague is an excellent choice to visit. "Gorgeous Boutique Hotel with great location" LondonSarahM, London Feb 13, 2007
I decided to book my boyfriend a surprise trip to Prague for his 30th Birthday and booked the Golden Wheel hotel for 2 nights through Expedia. I contacted the hotel 2 weeks before we were due to go and asked for an early check-in and late check-out, Champagne in the room and a possible upgrade to a suite. They responded almost immediately (Martin on reception) and although they couldn't confirm the upgrade immediately they would let me know nearer to the time. They also suggested walking tours and offered a taxi to pick us up form the airport. I was impressed by this level of service, especially at the rate we were paying. We did get the upgrade and it was complimentary, as well chocolates with the Champagne, which was an unexpected touch. The room was delightful and spacious with a view of the Prague Castle (room 307). It is a small hotel but the breakfast was simple but good and the service attentive. The hotel is clean and looks like it has recently been done up. It is on a hill to the castle but nothing an average person couldn't manage. It doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that put you off. I can't recommend this hotel enough, truly lovely and for the price an absolute bargain! I would recommend using the Tripple A taxi at the airport as they appear to be generally cheaper by 120 koruna than the pre-booked ones from the hotel. The location is very good as well, only 5 min to the castle and Charles Bridge and about 10-15min to the old town square. I recommend wandering the streets as we found some great little restaurants and sights that I don't think all tourists doing the walking tours would necessarily find. Also look around for prices as they do vary with a pint of beer being 100 koruna at the old town square to just 30 koruna around the corner! The Czech wine can be peppery but does compliment their traditional dishes. I loved Prague, the architecture, the history, the atmosphere and I can't wait to go back, however, unless you have a particular interest in the Jewish history of Prague I would think twice about paying 290 koruna for the Jewish Cemetry, but it was still interesting to experience never the less. More than anything explore and find your own Prague as I think, from speaking to others who have been, each of us found something different and special about this magical city but stay at the Golden Wheel! "Lovely Hotel, Wonderful Service, Great Location" Canuck_in_Brussels, Brussels Feb 7, 2007
We spent our 2006 Christmas vacation in Prague at this lovely hotel. It was a charming place with wonderful little surprises in every nook and corner – from the tiny glass balcony on the 5th floor to the colourful art on the elevator shaft to the quaint yellow stairway just outside the hotel. Service was friendly and warm - a bit harried during breakfast but still friendly. The location was great – just below the castle and in the quieter district of town. We absolutely loved it and would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed here over Christmas for 6 nights and were incredibly impressed. The service was impressive- the staff genuinely seemed to want to help you enjoy your stay. Because the hotel is so small it's also very ladi-back and thus you find yourself relaxing straight away. We stayed in a superior room and it was spacious, clean, bright and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and spotless (just how we like it) Breakfast was nice and there were lovely touches on Christmas eve and Christmas day. We loved the location, as it was a little out of the hustle and bustle, but everything is within easy walking distance. We also liked some of the restaurants close to the hotel- particularly Cowboys- we spend a fantastic Chrismas night here and loved it so much we had to go again two days later! We have also stayed in the 'Riverside' hotel in Prague (which is 5*) and we found The Golden Wheel to be to a higher standard, even though it has one less star! Although the Riverside is lovely too we would not stay anywhere but The Golden Wheel now. It's fantastic.

We booked the Golden Wheel based on previous reviews and the Hotel lived up to expectations. We stayed in the suite at the top of the hotel ( room 515 ) and loved the lay out and facilities. The design is very good and the split level suite is perfect for a couple or family. The staff are extremely helpful and discreet. They booked a meal for us at the Perle de Parague for a Birthday celebration which was wonderful. Snow on the 28th Decemeber helped to make our trip perfect. We have vistied Prague before and will return. We can recommend the Golden Wheel to families/couples. The Golden Wheel is a lovely hotel in an excellent location, close to Prague Palace. Our quiet room had a wonderful view of the Palace, as well as its own terrace (ask for room 410). The decor in both the bedroom and bathroom was stylish and modern - not fussy. Wooden floors give it a contemporary feel. The room was well appointed and the mini bar was reasonably priced. A rarity these days! We ordered breakfast in our room on the first morning and it was great. The second morning we ate in the cafe/breakfast room downstairs and that was good too. The staff are really nice and friendly. They booked us a concert and taxis to and from the airport and seemed genuinely happy to help. We would definitely recommend The Golden Wheel if you are visiting Prague. We would also recommend the following restaurants: David (traditional) and Cowboys (fun/American) both just up the road from the hotel Hergetova Cihelna Bar & Restaurant (sophisticated/trendy and very close to Charles Bridge) And for lunch, Kolkovna in the Jewish Quarter and coffee at the Franz Kafka coffee shop also in the JQ. The quality of food and drink in all the above was well above average. In fact, pretty excellent. We used the Time Out Prague mini guide to help us plan our weekend and it was brilliant - get one! Very Nice hotel, we stayed 3 nights for weekend romantic break. Definitely recommend the location. Room was big and very comfortable, and very clean. We were located to the front of the hotel and were worried about noise but this wasn't a problem at all. The hotel doesn't have air con so this could be uncomfortable in hotter months. Staff were pleasent and helpful. Has internet available in a common area. If you are one that get annoyed when sheets aren't changed daily then maybe not the hotel for you.......ours weren't changed during our stay. It would be a small minus but as they provided all the rest of the small things, it didn't take from our stay. Overall the hotel was lovely and I would definitely recommend, there were people from young couples to older couples to new families. We picked the Golden Wheel after reading a number of Prague hotel reviews on TripAdvisor. We specifically did not want a characterless chain hotel which could have been anywhere. What a wonderful location, full of character and so near to everything in Prague but just far enough off the main tourist trail to be quiet. The location is really excellent and the streets and surrounding area spotlessly clean. Head up the the main road to the Castle past St Nicholas's Church in Mala Strana. We made extensive use of local transport with the nearest tram stop 5 minutes walk away. Super staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. We had a huge room, beautifully decorated and furnished to a high standard - fabulous bathrooms. All the rooms have bathrobes, hairdrier, minibar, safe, tv, toiletries, etc. Internet access is on the 1st floor. The breakfast is plentiful (seemed never ending!) - continental buffet and cooked breakfast if required at no extra charge. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who enjoys quality, unobtrusive service, in quite elegant surroundings. We have already recommended it to a number of friends and shall certainly return.

My wife and I were very pleased with this hotel. Lovely spacious, modern rooms in a building full of character. Staff very friendly and helpful and hotel gives impression you are actually staying somewhere special rather than a chain hotel with that many guests no one really knows who you are. Location is in a lovely street on the way to Castle so easy short walk and you can get there early to miss the crowds. We preferred this location in Mala Strana to over the bridge, as to us, it was quieter and nicer. A bit more of a walk over the bridge to old town square and difficult to say how long it takes as we kept stopping for photos and in all the shops on the way. An awful lot of touristy souveneir shops on way to old town square. Not all rooms have air con which i didn't think i would need in September but it was quite hot so had to leave window open and as our room faced the street it was only noisy in the early morning especially on a Tuesday when buckets get emptied. Breakfast was a good selection of continental fare with a couple of hot dishes and eggs cooked to order. I stuck to cold selection and enjoyed the ham, chesse, bread and pastries on offer. Service was also excellent from a very polite efficient gentleman. We really liked this hotel and felt very much at home. Would have no hesitation recommending this hotel. This hotel far surpassed our expectations. We have two teenagers and when booked a room for 4, we expected the usual slightly cramped conditions. Far from it - the room was VERY spacious, clean and modern. The room was on two levels with a double bed on the upper plus en-suite toilet & T.V. The lower level had a double sofa bed, T.V and spacious bathroom with 2 basins with all usual toiletries provided. A bonus was the free internet where our teenagers could connect with the 'outside world' . We were on the top floor which provided beautiful views of prague from the several windows and it was very peaceful at night. The staff were very friendly and helpful...they even lent us an umbrella for the day when it was showery! The hotel is situated at the foot of the castle but only a 10-15 min picturesque walk into the lesser town..we couldn't have chosen a better option as it took us over the Charles bridge each day where we were serenaded by the many street musicians. The continental breakfast was ample for our needs and indeed Prague is comparatively cheap to eat and drink out by many Euopean standards. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone except those with a baby buggy as the heavily cobbled streets may be a challenge! We will certainly revisit Prague and stay at this hotel. Everything about the Golden Wheel oozes class. Whether it be the dressing gowns, breakfast in bed or simply the stunning rooms and decor, your stay will be memorable! Situated a stones throw from the impressive Prague Castle, you have a head start on the tourists making their way up to the highest Quarter of Prague. Seriously, the location of this gem of a hotel couldn't be better. It's 5 minutes away from Charles bridge but a million miles quieter. I chose the Golden Wheel over The Riverside. I won't forget Prague and plan to return at Christmas. To the Golden Wheel? Absolutely!

What a find this hotel was! We simply loved everything about it. The Mala Strana location was amazing -- a short walk to the bridge, but far away from the bustle of the old town. We are a family of four, and stayed in one of the top floor suites. Our room was clean and well-appointed, and the girls loved their "loft" bedroom! (Be aware that there was a long set of stairs leading to it.) If air conditioning is important, ask for it. Some but not all rooms are air conditioned. Breakfast was delicious and the hotel even provides free internet service. The castle view is lovely. And the staff was courteous, very helpful and spoke English perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to go back should I be lucky enough to visit Prague again!

Just returned from 3 nights at the Golden Wheel and found both the Hotel & the City simply fantastic. Although only a small hotel I could not find any fault with this establishment. All the staff speak excellent English and are really friendly & helpful. The rooms are decorated to a high standard and are extremely comfortable & relaxing, also, at night you could hear a pin drop outside and getting a good nights sleep was never a problem, unlike some of the areas on the other side of the river! We found there was plenty to pick from at breakfast with usual choices of cereals, fruits, bread as well as a cooked option, if none of this takes your fancy you could always go for the freshly cooked omelette. The area itself was fine, with a decent choice of restaurants & bars within 5 minutes walk in either direction, although as I said, there was no late night noise. Charles Bridge is about a 5-10 minute walk away downhill, 10-15 minutes to the town square. Prague Castle is directly behind the hotel and is a fairly steep uphill walk, but again only 5-10 mins away. The only downside was that the location is fairly hilly, but that was a small price to pay to be in such a wonderful area from which to explore the City. My wife and I shall be returning to Prague and definitely staying at the Golden Wheel again

We spent five days in Prague and the choice of our hotel was partially influenced by the enthusiastic opinions on tripadvisor. Today we join all these people and express our total satisfaction. Everything corresponds to the rich choice of photos on the hotel's website. The Golden Wheel ist the perfect accomodation for visitors who like the romantic atmosphere of a historic building combined with all modern comfort and good taste. We felt llike at home, the staff is particularly firendly, helfpul, efficient and gives his visitors all individual treat. Beautiful room, bathroom in "Grand hotel" style, very rich and varied breakfast in the charming café. The location is ideal on the beautiful Neruda Street near the Castle and not far from Charles Bridge, but more quiet than the old town center. Recently transformed in a hotel this lovely baroque house will suit visitors who prefer the atmosphere of a "Guest house" to that of a big unpersonal hotel of the great international groups.

The very first second you walk in The Golden Wheel hotel in Prague, you feel like you've been there youre for a long time. You feel like you've entered your own home. The staff is the nicest I've ever seen in any hotel worldwide. The hotel is coazy and clean, makes you feel like home. The rooms are quite big, and really comfortable. The breakfast is more then anyone could wish for. Great food, and large quantities of it... The hotel looks like it was renovated lately, since eveything looks new. Yet it combines modernism and anthiques. The location of the hotel is great also - just a few minutes walking distance from Charls Bridge. I recomend this hotel, to anyone who likes to feel at home, and to be located right in the center of everything. PERFECT HOTEL!!!!

"Peaceful little hotel" Bernard_Blink, Gloucester Apr 13, 2006
We stayed over Valentine's in February but I have only just got round to writing this review. This was a lovely small hotel in a fairly quiet part of Prague - it's a brisk 10-15 minute walk across Charles Bridge to the action of the Old Town but that's how we like it! The staff were excellent - completely professional, polite and never obtrusive. And so efficient. No sooner did we ask and it was done! The room was a bit hot but we had casement windows so just opened those and stuck our heads out to watch the street below us go by. And it was February so rather that than too cold! We stayed in room 101 which overlooked the street. It was so tastefully furnished - you could spend a happy hour just staring at the ceiling - and I loved the deco style bathroom. Breakfast wasn't that sumptuous but there was more than enough to eat - and you could have it delivered to your room for no extra charge. Eating out in Prague is so cheap that it's not worth staying in the hotel for too long. Try Restaurant Rejkavik (in the Old Town opposite Charles bridge) for lovely fish or else Cafe Flambe for really good food. And the wild boar at Restaurant David is well worth it. Zanzibar which is near to Judith gate on the Mala Strana side of Charles Bridge also does very good cocktails if you don't fancy the George & Dragon in Old Town Square (!). If you like corporate hotels with bustling lobbies go stay somewhere else - but if you love buildings and history and atmosphere this might be the place for you...

What can I say, we really can not fault this hotel or anything about Prague, the accommodation, service, staff and just about everything was perfect. A lovely modern hotel, only 2 years old, which is tastefully decorated in a modern style and includes just about everything in the room you could ask for. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, they were always on hand and very willing to give any help or advice when asked. The location for the hotel is just a short walk from the castle in the Mala Strana district and about 10-15 minute walk to the old town district. Any photos you will see on this hotel are usually spot on. Thoroughly recommended.

What a wonderful find. We had problems with my husband's passport (it expired as we checked in at the airport!) so had to cancel our original booking and return 3 days later. The Hotel staff were brilliant - we were not charged for the cancelled booking, and when we rebooked they had upgraded us to a superior room at no charge. The rooms are all beautiful (we had a tour of the hotel as it was quiet) and all furnished to the same high standard - fabulous bathrooms. All the rooms have bathrobes, hairdrier, minibar, safe, internet access, tv, toiletries etc. The breakfast is superb - continental buffet PLUS cooked "English Breakfast" at no extra charge. The situation is really pleasant - in Mala Strana on the road up to the castle which is very, very quiet at night. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who likes quality, good service, good food and elegant surroundings. We shall certainly return - it was the icing on the cake of our trip!

The hotel personnel were excellent and very professional. It was so refreshing to have a hotel with a personality, as we made several friends during our stay. The Golden Wheel is perfectly located on the beautiful Nerudova St. , at the foot of the Prague Castle. The included breakfast service was very nice, and we looked forward to it every morning. I have just spend 4 nights at the Golden Wheel and I cannot fault this hotel at all. The staff were wonderful and always helpful. We were in Prague for my cousin's wedding and most of the wedding party stayed at the hotel. They could not do enough for us! The location is great too, on Nerudova Street, which is the gorgeous narrow cobbled street that leads to Prague Castle (only a few minutes away). The rooms were fabulous - clean and bright - and the beds were really comfortable (you may need to ask for extra pillows though!). The breakfast was varied with lots to choose from, including ham & eggs (any way you want them), fresh fruit, yogurts, juices, croissants, danish, various breads and cereals. Also great 'wake-you-up' coffee and several flavoured teas to choose from. Check out the cafe/bar in the courtyard directly across the street - best bruschetta I ever tasted. Also, the bar in the Hotel U Brany (Nerudova 21) does the best chicken noodle dish! They also serve a great beer called Kelt, which will tide over those of you Irish tourists who are missing your Guinness! Iwould not hesitate to reccommend The Golden Wheel to anyone - I think it deserves 5 stars.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights at the Golden Wheel Hotel in Prague from 1st - 5th August 2005. The hotel was perfectly located for sightseeing and exploring, 5 minutes walk uphill to the castle and 10 minutes walk downhill towards Charles Bridge. Our room was large and of 4* quality. We found the staff to be excellent, polite and helpful. Breakfast was very good with a good variety of foods on offer. Internet access is available free to guests (not that we used it) We would certainly recommend this hotel to others and would stay again. It offers good value and service. We enjoyed our stay in Prague and found some lovely places to eat and drink including 'Resturant David', 5 minutes from the hotel and rated in the top 10 resturants to eat in Prague. Turn right out of the hotel and cross the road. Follow the steps down and keep going along the cobbled street, Resturant David is at the bottom of the road (small from the outside) You need to ring the bell and be esorted in. We had 3 delightful courses, wine and water for around £60! The meal was intimate and service excellent. Also 'Bazzar' a resturant just 3 mins walk uphill from the hotel was great, 3 courses including filet steak and wine around £45 for 2. Just a couple of other points if it's your first vist to Prague. Prices are much cheaper in the old town of Prague. Avoid horse and carrage rides in old town square (£20 for 20 mins) as you go around the same block twice! And finally, don't forget to keep 10kcs in your pocket as all public toilets charge a fee to use. Have a great trip...

We're just back from 3 nights in the Golden Wheel. The hotel is in a great location, just down the hill from the castle, and has recently been done up throughout. The rooms are very clean and large and the staff of the hotel are extremly friendly and helpful. The breakfast in the morning was also delish.. a bit of everything you could ask for. I have a few small issues with the place however. We asked for a quiet room when booking, but we got a room overlooking a quite busy street on the first floor. When we closed the windows we couldn't really hear the noise on the street, but the room was then extremly warm. This is another major drawback of the hotel... not all the rooms have air conditioning. This is probably as they are only style cielings to the rooms that they don't want to ruin. Also, the bed was a little strange. While it was a queen size bed, my partner and I both felt that the bed was on a slant, and the pillows were dreadful! I spelt with the dressing gown and a folded up duvet under me every night!!! Overall, I think that the hotel was a great place, but there was just bits that could've been improved.. start with the pillows and work upwards!

It had only been open for a short time and we did not know what to expect. We were quite happy. The room was great with an interesting old ceiling, the location good with a lot of interesting restaurants near by but a little noisy and the help was very friendly, although somewhat inexperienced. Definitely liked beiing on the castle side of the river. Breakfast buffet was good also. Would recommend

Breakfast superb with a varied choice of hot and cold dishes to fill up on. Having extensively researched all other hotels on the web, we were so delighted with this one. There is a kettle in the room with tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as a mini-bar. Also hooded towelling dressing gowns are provided. Bathroom very modern. Use web to find cheapest hotel prices, we found a varient of 80 euro per night.

Stayed in this lovely old but newly refurbished hotel over Christmas 2004. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations and contributed greatly to a memorable stay in Prague. All the hotel staff was pleasant and attentive. The breakfast was freshly laid out and of great quality. The location of the hotel couldn't be better for exploring all the major sites of interest. We stayed in the Junior Suite which was roomy immaculately kept and very clean. The only two small negative points were that the bathroom smelled quite musty, of stagnant water, but this soon went when the shower was run. The other very minor point was that the pillows were rather thin for our liking but I am sure that extras would have been provided if we’d asked but we just improvised and used the cushions from the couch! We would definitely stay at the Golden Wheel again. Recommend a night out at U Kalchia Restaurant for great traditional Czech food and entertainment, booking essential.

We stayed in this hotel in December 2004 and just couldn't fault it. It's a lovely old building, beautifully decorated with its own rooftop garden and a viewing balcony that has wonderful views of the castle. Its location is perfect, five minutes' walk from the castle and about ten from Charles' Bridge and it made a a great base. The hotel is very new, so everything is pristine-clean. Rooms are big and spotless and, because it's so small, the staff give you personal attention and are extremely friendly. They go out of their way to be accommodating and friendly and couldn't be nicer. The breakfast is fantastic, with a cold buffet and a hot menu (ham and eggs, omelette, etc) cooked to order. Part of me wants to keep this wonderful hotel a secret! But such a lovely place deserves to be recognised. i can't recommend it highly enough!

This is a lovely, tranquil, friendly hotel. We stayed in an attic room which was very calm and peaceful. We stayed in early 2004 when the hotel had not been open for long, and everything felt very fresh and new. The bedlinen is crisp and white and the bathroom was done out in clean black and white. Although it was more expensive than many of the other nearby hotels, I felt it was still good value. The location, tucked under the castle and close to Charles Bridge, was perfect, and it was lovely to walk over the bridge in the evening, leaving the hustle and bustle of the new town behind, and retire to the haven of the Golden Wheel. Breakfast is also very good. I'd recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

we are currently at the golden wheel and loving it. the hotel is very nice. the staff is super friendly and accomodating. the location cannot be beat. 3 minutes walk to prague castle and the lorreto area. old town is okay, full of tourist traps. the hotel is in the the area known as the "golden mile" 10 minute walk to the charles bridge and 15 minutes to the old town. the area is filled with antique shops, restaraunts (good and reasonable), boutiques, art galleries and wine shops. the hotel is great. the rooms are large with spa like bathes. more than you could hope for !! the hotel has a rooftop garden perfect for a bottle of wine purchased at one of the local shops (8.00 us) and the view is incredible. a wonderful breakfast is served each day, coffees, teas, pastires, jucies, meats and cheeses. the hotel offers free unlimited internet service from a central location that has a good area for reading or plotting your days course. the hotel was more than i expected.

The Golden Wheel is ideally located in Prague's Mala Strana area, about half-way between Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge. The rooms are immaculate and extremely modern (renovated several years ago) which is a delightful contrast to the charming exterior of the centuries-old building. An excellent range of breakfast choices is included in the room rate. The front desk staff is superb: very knowledgeable, very friendly, eager to be helpful and available 24 hours a day. The hotel is boutique size (17 rooms) but offers a level of service better than most properties that are ten times its size. My group of four friends (all very experienced travelers) spent five days at The Golden Wheel and we all agreed it was one of the most enjoyable hotel experiences we had had anywhere in the world.

I just hope next time I get a room with a view to the palace ;-) including toothbrush in the bathroom would be great. I hope the hotel would ask the guest if they need towel change if they stay more than 1 night. I personally would prefer to leave the towel as it is. so that we can be more environmentally friendly.

Excellent rate, as I booked in advance and got the special advance booking rate, so didn't pay full price. Large selection of food on offer for breakfast, with really friendly, helpful hotel staff. Fabulous Experience

Both Prague and the Golden Wheel were the highlights of our 3 week European trip. The hotel provided the best accomodations we had during our stays in 5 European cities. The room was huge by European standards, quiet, there was Internet access a few steps away and no line waiting to use it. Bath facilities were modern and immaculate. The buffet breakfasts were superb! The staff was extremely friendly and could not have been more helpful. The location was perfect being midway between Prague Castle & the Charles Bridge. We are recommending the Golden Wheel to everyone we know who will be travelling to Prague as part of their European itineraries.

Believe the reviews that you read here, the Golden Wheel is a fantastic hotel. The location is ideal. You are close enough to easily walk to all the main sights but by being on the other side of the river from the old town, you are away from the majority of the hordes. The views to the castle from the back of the hotel are stunning. The staff were really helpful and friendly and really made the stay. The breakfast in the hotel’s cafe was excellent.

Very Impressed with the Golden Wheel
Very friendly staff, nothing seemed too much trouble. Rooms were comfortable, clean, warm, and well equipped. Close to the castle and many of the other sights, not suitable if you have trouble climbing hills as the hotel is located on quite a step hill, but that also adds to the character of the place. Renovated fairly recently, 2002, but this has been done very tastefully and to an excellent standard, which in no way affects the character of the Hotel. Plenty of good eating places near by and the café attached to the hotel provides and excellent Breakfast and lovely snacks throughout the day. I would defiantly recommend it as a place to stay

Lovely hotel in an ideal location. Friendly service with good facilities and a very good breakfast served at sociable hours. Just the one minor negative - their airport service is a tie-up with a relatively expensive taxi firm, which was unacceptably late for our booking; would be better if they were prepared to book a normal taxi. But otherwise, really very good and we would recommend the hotel highly, would be happy to go back.

Little gem in Prague
This hotel exceeded my expectations - it’s location (on a not too steep hill) is excellent, approx halfway between the castle and the Charles Bridge. The fixtures, fittings etc in the hotel were of a high standard. The room (we had a ’garden room’) was spacious with a work desk by the window, settee and chair, tea/coffee facilities, ’walk-in’ wardrobe and well appointed bathroom with a good HOT shower (I like it hot!) and in warm weather (we went in a cooler March) there is a small private patio with table and chairs with views up to the castle...just around the corner and up the steps is a small garden for guests. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The one complaint was on the first night when we did not sleep well due to a hard mattress on the bed. This was mentioned in the morning and a softer overlay, with good sleep, was in place for the next nights. Well worth considering if you want a small, personal, hotel in Prague.

Lovely hotel, great location with lovely staff.

Our stay at the Golden wheel really made our trip great. The hotel was spotless and the staff were helpful. Just two problems though: the staff tended to hover around when we were having the buffet breakfast and whipped our plates out from underneath us mid bite ( Tip: fill your plate with as much food as you can instead of going back for seconds). The hotel was quite noisy and sounds from guests staying in the room above us could be heard very easily.

Having visited Prague twice before on business and never getting chance to see the city, it was time to go back for a proper look, this time as a special trip with my wife. I chose this hotel because of the reviews i found on Expedia, and i have to say it matched all that was writen. I’m used to staying in big conference hotels with work, with all the facilities but no atmosphere, this hotel however ouzes atmosphere out of every pore! very quaint and quirky with character and in a good location. One of the best things i found was the staff, nothing was too much trouble, and all very friendly. Oh also...Hot chocolate and apple strudel from the Arcade cafe(where you have breakfast)is great after a long day walking in the cold.

The hotel looks tiny from the front, but the hotel within is a hidden diamond. The staff are polite, efficient and likeable. The hotel generally, our room and the service exceeded our every expectation. The hotel arranged transport from the airport and booked an evening meal on our day of arrival as it was my 50th birthday that day. There was a totally unexpected complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and chocolates in our room. All of which contributed us to having the most perfect stay in Prague. This is a great hotel. It is on a lovely, quiet street very close to Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge and is brilliantly located for walking all round the city. I would consider that this side of the river is the best side to stay on as it is away from the crowded new town which can be quite busy with the big shopping centers, traffic, etc. There are 3 great restaurants on the same street(Nerudova) although if you are looking for late night drinking, the other side of the river is best, around Wenclesas square as bars and restaurants tend to close early near this hotel -just follow the stag-nighters! The staff in the hotel are great - very friendly and helpful. The room was nice and big, very clean with very modern bathroom, although if you have trouble with your mobility you might have trouble getting into the bath/shower as it was set quite high off the floor which then also resulted in difficulty with the shower - you may do your neck in bending down to fit under it if you are anything over 4ft 11! Breakfast was a good buffet selection of cold meats, cheeses, lovely Czech bread, cereals, fruit and hot food, ie bacon, sausages, fried or boiled eggs which really does set you up for the day which you will need for the vast amount of walking you will do. All in all, this is a definite recommendation - great location, nice room, good food, helpful staff.

The Golden wheel

The ratings say it all. A good hotel, well located if you don’t mind walking. This side of the river is by far the nicest area to stay. And a walk in Petrin Park to the the top taking in the tower/hall of mirrors and then across towards the castle stopping at the hotel for lunch which gives views across the river and then on to the castle will take care of 1 days visit!

A wonderful hotel

We chose this hotel because of the excellent reviews given by other visitors. Believe what you read! This is a little gem and the helpful staff ensured our stay was one to remember.

just as I had expected

we arrived in Prague for 3 nights in October. Having looked at reviews on the web site, we were not disappointed. it was in a lovely location just under the walls of the castle with great history. Many sights nearby with Charles Bridge 5 min walk away then many sights on other side of river. The hotel was lovely we had a superior room (206) which was really quaint and had traditional features. breakfasts were of a good standard buffet style. there was a good choice continental and eggs cooked different ways each day with bacon or sausage. We didn’t have a road overlooking our room but the road never appeared to be busy so I don’t think noise is an issue. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone. Enjoy!!

Excellent hotel

Very good hotel, well situated half-way up the hill towards the castle. Staff friendly and helpful, rooms tastefully furnished. Liked the wooden floors and the black-and-white tiled bathroom. Buffet breakfast at the adjoining coffee shop was excellent - staff keep you well supplied with coffee or tea while you help yourself to any or all styles of breakfast that you want. There’s a small balcony on the 4th floor which offers great views of the castle. Some rooms which face in this direction will also have this view, but it’s good that the rest of us can take a look too! Overall, couldn’t fault the place - ten minute walk uphill to the castle, fifteen minute walk downhill to the Charles Bridge, lots of coffee shops and a good selection of restaurants nearby.

What a find!

Fantastic hotel with a view of the castle from the little balcony at the back. Staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Rooms were very well designed, comfortable and stylish. Breakfast in small cafe adjoining hotel was great with lots of choice. Will definitely go back as soon as possible. (nice touch, on table at breakfast a card with weather forecast, top tip and suggested trip for the day!)

Lovely boutique hotel

We stayed at the Golden Wheel for three nights in October. The building was refurbished a few years ago when it became a hotel - the rooms are very well appointed, with excellent en-suite facilities. Helpful and friendly staff. Although it is on the road up to the castle the street and the hotel are very quiet at night. Panoramic views of the castle from the viewing balcony on the 4th floor - great place to take a photo’ of the castle at night. Excellent breakfasts in the Arcadia cafe/restaurant, and the hot chocolate and cakes are to die for! Loads of great value restaurants serving local food within 5 minutes of the hotel. Conveniently situated for the castle and only a short walk to the Charles Bridge & the old town centre - all the sites are within easy walking distance. We have been on quite a number of European city breaks and this is the best hotel by far that we have stayed in.

nice hotel

Stayed for 3 nights in October 07. They forgot to mention it was half way up a steep hill but worth the walk. Had rm. 514 in the attic. Very restricted space, not 4* friends had rm. 412 that was fine. Hotel staff great very obliging re restaurants, directions etc would certainly stay there again away from all the bustle of the old town.

Excellent hotel

We had a lovely quiet room at the back of the hotel. The hotel is very convenient for the castle and other west bank locations and the Charles Bridge is only three minutes walk away. There are several good restaurants within 200 yards. The West bank is quite hilly and there are a lot of steps up to the castle. The Old Town and Jewish quarter on the East bank are fairly flat and walking is not a problem. Do NOT go on the Jazz boat cruise - an hour and a half to go less than a mile. Most of the time is spent stopped in the middle of the river. We really enjoyed Prague and would go back to the Golden Wheel again.

Very homey small comfortable hotel

With only 17 rooms, this small hotel has a comfortable "at home" feel. You don’t feel like you are staying in a hotel, it is cozy, warm, and with a comfortable decor you don’t expect in a hotel. I think the location is great - far enough from the main tourist drag of old town (20-25 min walk) but still definitely on the tourist circuit, just a 5 min walk from the bridge and right under the castle, and just a block or two from the tram. It was REALLY QUIET in my room all the time. The service and personal attention was excellent and all spoke very good English. My only tip would be to use the tourist information or internet for directions, what I got from the hotel staff was not always reliable. Nice breakfast buffet, all the essentials (breads, yogurts, fruits, meats and cheese, a hot egg dish with sausage or bacon, and juices). If you want to stay in a place that feels like a home, is quiet, well located, on public transport, and doesn’t have the cookie-cutter feel of a big or chain hotel, this is an excellent choice and I think a very good value for the money.

I’ll be back later!

The hotel is of an excellent standard, clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The location for us was ideal, not too busy but not desolate either with a good selection of places to eat close by. A return visit is definitely on the cards!

Superb Hotel, Worth 5 Star Rating

A wonderful hotel surely worth a 5* rating, situated half way up to the castle on a hill but its not that steep. The hotel staff are friendly, speak good English and cannot do enough to make your stay special. The hotel is beautiful in all respects and is very clean and comfortable. Check out the lovely little garden upstairs at the back of the hotel. Prague is wonderful and is best seen on foot but bring comfortable walking shoes, even for night time and heels are not an option! This is definitely the ’posh’ end of town and prices here are more reasonable than anywhere else. The Squares can be busy at nights with traffic and bars and shops on the doorstep. The area incorporates everything that is nice of an historical area of a city, it is possibly the oldest part of the city and has been preserved to a very high standard. The hotel is on the main street up to the castle but its not busy and bustling. It can get busy with tourists walking to the castle but is never busy with traffic. The area is very quiet at night. We would not hesitate to come back to this hotel. Hopefully you will think the same and enjoy the Golden Wheel and its lovely setting as much as we have.

Friendly, helpful staff; excellent breakfasts; great location!

We read other reviews on Expedia and were not disappointed with hotel, staff, room or location. Breakfast generous - novelettes fantastic! Large room by European standards. Fab bathroom. Bit odd having twin beds as ’queen’ bed but very comfortable & not really a problem. Hill not a problem. Location great for restaurants - cheaper than other side of Vltava.

Friendly, quiet and convenient

I chose this hotel mostly from previous reviews but also because the ones in the Old Town looked to be in busy areas. It was an excellent choice. The young staff are very capable, friendly and speak good English. The room we had was on the first floor (we were 3 people) spacious, clean and with a medieval painted wooden ceiling. Despite being on one of the main access routes to the Castle it was very quiet after about 5.00 p.m. and not busy before 11.00 a.m. And the Malostrana area of Prague has to rate as the prettiest in town.

Bit strange and quirky, rather nice.

Staying in one of the Panorama suites (515) where bedroom and sitting area are arranged on different floors, one might expect spaciousness and views. However, the views are extremely limited - the windows are velux type set in to a seriously sloping ceiling so one hardly gets what could be termed a panoramic view - and the space is limited as well, partly because the floor levels are interrupted by plinths and dais and steps and stairs, also because of the sloping ceilings (unless you happen to be midget, in which case you certainly won’t see out of the windows!). However, the bathroom is huge and luxurious, the hotel spotlessly clean and friendly, you get free internet access if you want it and the (inclusive) breakfast is adequately generous and tasty. The location of the hotel is good too... bear in mind that Prague is a "walking city" and that gradients exist on this side of the Vltava! This hotel would be, I think, virtually inaccessible to people with mobility problems. It does have a lift (well, 2; one to the first floor, then to another small lift via a variety of changes of floor level for the other 4 floors). I suspect that the hotel has managed the available space very cleverly but as I say, not terribly practically for the less able bodied... which fortunately did not affect us. We liked the hotel very much; the reception staff was helpful and efficient at all times and the service exemplary.  Nancy I from Illinois, posted: 13-Nov-07

Location! Location!

This hotel was a pleasant surprise. I had read the reviews but still unprepared for the friendliness of the staff. The breakfast buffet was great! I had a room at the front of the hotel & just loved watching the street below! The castle view is wonderful. I walked everywhere! It snowed my last morning which turned the area into a fantasy land. I did take a day trip to Kunta Hora...used the train & had no problems getting there. The Czech people were wonderful! Most know English & want to talk to you! I will return!

Room with at View

The Golden Wheel is located just below the Prague castle on the main street leading up to the castle. If you book a room on the top floor as we did, you can see down on the city (through skylight-like windows) and up to castle (through small portal windows - although the best view of the castle is from the city at night when the castle is lighted). The top floor is split level, with sloping walls upstairs and downstairs that eat into the available space - however, the upstairs portion had its own bathroom, wooden floors and a loft-like bed, which made it a cozy place to sleep. The hotel is small, the staff were very friendly, and the breakfast (standard Western fare) was good. There was not much in the way of good restaurants nearby, although Prague is not much of a town for fine dining anyway (think Vienna with plenty of pork). We were there in October when it was fairly cool, and the hotel controlled the heat, which it only turned on in the morning (however, the room did have several air conditioners that could be controlled, which would probably useful in the summer). By the way, the tourist areas were fairly full in October so I would imagine it is jam packed in the summer, which may make getting to the hotel by taxis difficult during the day with the steady stream of castle visitors. Nonetheless, it is a wonderful city to visit, especially if you are interested baroque architecture.

Fantastic hotel, excellent service, perfect location

Excellent hotel. The staff is very helpful, even arranged for a taxi to pick us up late at night at the train station (highly recommend that you do that instead of searching on your own). Wonderful breakfast. Highly recommended.

Nice Location, but could do Better with Cleanliness

I stayed at the Golden Wheel for two days last week. Pros: location, service, style of hotel, breakfast buffet included. Cons: Lots of stairs make baggage transport difficult (but our front desk person was kind enough to help carry bags), sheets were not changed (a major pet peeve!) and bed spread had clearly seen a good time before we arrived. ;-) Overall, experience was positive, but I would try another place next time.

Very impressed!

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel. The receptionists and restaurant staffs are always very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very clean and breakfast is very good. The hotel is in great location. Only 10 minutes walk to Charles Bridge and 5 minutes walk to Prague Castle. Very easy to get to the hotel from the airport and vice versa. Since we don’t have heavy luggage to carry, instead of taking a cab we took the bus (#119) from the airport and then took the Metro (subway) from Dejvicka station and got off at Malostranska station w/c is about 7 minutes walk to the hotel. Total commute time (by bus and metro) from the airport to Malostranska station is about 35 minutes. Would highly recommend this hotel.

I did a happy dance

Settled into this captivating and romantic hotel, knowing we were right to trust the reviews on this page. But it was the view from the private balcony of room 410 that provoked the "happy dance." Jaw-dropping vista of castle above, which is illuminated at night. Amazing and magical. Nerudova Street is a charming, narrow, cobble-stoned street that is convenient to delicious food (we also liked the Three Violin a few doors down) and the castle complex a short climb above. Much quieter than Old Town, although in July you’re not going to find a piece of Old Prague that isn’t overrun with tourists. Service was attentive, friendly, and unobtrusive in just the right combination. Go earlier rather than later for the breakfast buffet, if you want the full selection. Overall, I can’t imagine a lovelier place to stay. I very highly recommend this beautiful and comfortable hotel. A successful blending of old world elegance (the building dates to the 16th century) and sleek modern details.

"This was a really great small hotel with a staff that was personal and attentive to our needs . A couple of suggested activities in Prague:a sweet couple run a value for money boat ride aboard the 'Klondike', we had the boat for ourselves - two chairs on the bow, with a liitle sliding shelf that can sit a glass of white wine or hot rum....watching ducks fly across the bow. The Kampapark restaurant mentioned on i-escape was as good as suggested, the ideal choice for that big celebration or night out. Similarly of high quality was the Hergetova Cihelna, part of the same restaurant group which was wonderful as the next night's farewell to Prague. Well done -i-escape. "

"Great location under the castle and near the Charles Bridge. Crowded during the day but peaceful in the evening. The staff were very friendly and the place is kept meticulously clean. Our room was ample in size. Negative points are foam pillows, foyer could be updated, and the walls are a bit thin. Great value for money. "
